The Foundation for Excellence is an independent 501(c)3 non-profit support corporation. Its accounting policies conform to U.S. generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) as applicable to nonprofit entities. Audited financial information is presented in the FFE's Annual Reports.

FFE's Bylaws, Policies, and Articles of Incorporation outline its purpose and how it operates. These documents are always available for public review. 

After the FFE budget is approved by the Board of Directors, it is included in the City of Kalamazoo's annual budget. FFE investments are subject to the same scrutiny as all other public spending and must be approved by the City Commission as part of the City's budget process.

The Foundation for Excellence was officially created in 2017 after nearly a year-long public process, including multiple steps of review and approval by the Kalamazoo City Commission. Documents from this process are available here for review.This includes several draft versions of documents to provide transparency into how this process was conducted. Final and approved versions of documents are available under the appropriate headings on this page.

The Foundation for Excellence publishes an annual newsletter every year to share stories about impact and investments during the year. Newsletters are mailed to all households in the city and available to view online.
